Two planes collide in Japan, 5 dead

All 379 people on board the Japan Airlines plane that collided with a Coast Guard aircraft at Haneda Airport in Japan were safely evacuated. However, five crew members from other aircraft were killed. A Japan Airlines (JAL) plane collided with a Coast Guard aircraft on the runway at Tokyo's Haneda Airport on Tuesday, after which both aircraft caught fire, officials said.

The Airbus A-350 crashed while landing at Haneda Airport, an airline spokesman said.

Videos and photos of the plane crashing as it caught fire are spreading on social media. The plane with 379 passengers on board was landing at Tokyo Airport when it violently collided with another Coast Guard aircraft as it approached the runway and immediately burst into flames.

Tokyo Airport authorities said 379 passengers were safely evacuated and the fire was extinguished.

Cause of Accident

The Japanese Coast Guard said it was investigating the cause of the crash between a Japan Airlines (JAL) plane and a Coast Guard aircraft. Meanwhile, the Japan International Broadcasting Corporation (JIPC) reported that five people were found dead on a Japanese Coast Guard aircraft. One of the six pilots on board was seriously injured but survived.

The Coast Guard later said its plane was en route to Niigata Airport on Japan's west coast to deliver aid to people affected by the powerful New Year's earthquake. About 50 people died in this earthquake. Images released by Japanese radio service TBS also showed passengers boarding a commercial flight and emergency responders extinguishing the fire.
