Shakib-ul-Hasan won the parliamentary seat

Dhaka: Bangladesh cricket team captain Shakib-ul-Hasan won the parliamentary seat.

According to Bangladeshi media reports, captain Shakibul Hasan has won the parliamentary seat from his constituency in the western town of Magura.

The 36-year-old all-rounder has defeated his rival by a margin of over one and a half lakh votes.

It should be noted that Shakib-ul-Hasan had contested the election on the ticket of Awami League, the party of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid.

District Chief Administrator Abu Nasir Baig termed Shakib-ul-Hasan's success as a 'great victory' but the cricketer has not yet issued a statement on his success.

Sheikh Hasina herself has become the Prime Minister of the country for the fifth time by winning these elections with a huge majority.

Shakib-ul-Hasan, speaking ahead of the election, admitted that he does not face any major hurdles but is still concerned about balancing cricket and politics.

"Whether it's a small team or a big team, competition and challenges are always there," he said.

Due to contesting elections, he had temporarily distanced himself from cricket.
